What is a ceramic coating?

Hard-wearing protection.

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer containing SiO2 that bonds chemically to the surface. It forms a very thin layer, like a wax, but much harder and more durable.

Coatings typically last from 12 months to 5 years. They help protect against UV rays that cause oxidation, and against stains and etching as long as contaminants are removed promptly.

A coating sets very hard, so the paint must be as good as it can be first. Even brand-new cars usually have some swirls from the day you collect them.

Warranty conditions

Keep your coating covered.

To maintain performance and keep your warranty valid, your vehicle must have a monthly maintenance wash carried out by JMS Detailing. Missing the schedule voids the warranty.

Each visit, the coating is inspected, cleaned and decontaminated with specialist products for coated cars, removing road film, fallout, tar, sap, bird droppings and hard-water minerals before they cause damage.

Not covered: damage from neglect, improper washing methods, unsuitable chemicals, automatic car washes, abrasive cleaning materials, or missed maintenance appointments.

Is a ceramic coating worth it?
If you want more gloss, protection from UV and contamination, and a car that's far easier to wash, yes. It's a significant investment in your car's appearance, so it pays to look after it.
Does a new car need preparing?
Usually. Most new cars have some swirls from the moment you collect them. We decontaminate the paint, and polish where needed, before applying the coating.
How long does a coating last?
Coatings typically last from 12 months to 5 years. We offer 1-year and 2-year coatings; regular maintenance helps them reach their full lifespan.
Can I use an automatic car wash?
We don't recommend it. Coatings aren't maintenance-free, and damage from automatic car washes, harsh chemicals or abrasive materials isn't covered by the warranty.
